Family Integration: Clients Think They Have It; Advisors Think They Deliver It; Most Are Wrong

Date: Thursday, May 11, 2017
Time: 4:45pm - 8:15pm
Location: Stony Hill Inn, Hackensack, NJ
Speaker: Thomas C. Rogerson, Senior Managing Director, Wilmington Trust

Description of Presentation:

As we work day to day as advisors we meet many who often separate their wealth in their mind into three different silos.  They think of their investments separately from their estate plan separately from preparing their family.  On the investment side they often have multiple advisors and there is often overlap on asset classes, risk, fees, conflicts of interest and different approaches to process and styles.  In the area of estate planning many view it as death planning.  And, it’s usually thought of as tactics by interest or by necessity.  In the area of family it’s usually a missed family opportunity.  It’s informally discussed or never done at all.  To add insult to injury, people usually build mental barriers between the three concepts of investments, estate planning and family that preclude them from getting the quality coordinated work done. We, all, as expert advisors owe it to our clients to think and work daily in an integrated manner.  Tom will describe and explore tools to help a family be more intentional about creating a long term integrated view.  We owe it to our clients to work together to help families succeed over the generations.
