ESTATE PLANNERS' DAY 2025

Attendees should arrive by 8:15 AM for check-in and breakfast - programming will begin at 9:00 AM.

While enjoying breakfast, you will have time to meet with our sponsors, including law firms, valuation firms, advisory firms and companies that provide technological solutions for estate planning practitioners.

We will hear from Joy Matak, Esq. on several ways the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will affect estate planning. Additionally, a panel comprising practitioners from the allied professions in estate planning, including council members, will share their insights on the future of estate planning.

SPEAKERS:

TOPIC 1: "Advantageous Trust Planning after OB3"

Joy Matak - Partner at Avelino Law, LLP in the firm’s Private Client Services

practice group. With over two decades of diversified experience as a wealth transfer

strategist, Joy has an extensive background in recommending and implementing

advantageous tax strategies for multigenerational wealth families, owners of closely held

businesses, and high net worth individuals. Adept at navigating the intricate landscape of

estate and business succession, Joy crafts customized wealth transfer strategy plans to

accomplish even the most complicated estate and business succession goals. She also

performs tax compliance work including gift tax, estate tax, and income tax returns for

trusts and estates as well as consulting services related to transfer tax planning, asset

protection, life insurance structuring, and post-mortem planning.

A sought-after resource in her field, Joy frequently shares her insights through speaking

engagements for the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section; Wealth Management

Magazine; the Estate Planning Council of Northern New Jersey; and the Society of Financial

Service Professionals. Joy is a regular, monthly contributor to Trusts & Estates magazine

and has authored and co-authored articles for the Tax Management Estates, Gifts and

Trusts (BNA) Journal; Leimberg Information Services, Inc. (LISI); and Estate Planning Review

The CCH Journal, among others, on a variety of topics including wealth transfer strategies,

income taxation of trusts and estates, and business succession planning. Joy co-authored

a book on the 2017 tax reforms entitled Estate Planning: Estate, Tax and Other Planning

after the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Attended Georgetown University Law Center,

Vermont Law School and Seton Hall.

TOPIC 2: "Discussing the Future of Estate Planning"

The passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the increase of the Federal gift and

estate tax exemption to $15 million (inflation adjusted) is just one in a series of tax bills

over the last 15 years that has seen the estate tax exemption reach ever greater

heights. Fewer clients than ever will need estate tax planning. Though clients will

always need estate planning, many may not see the same necessity for a

comprehensive estate plan involving practitioners from the allied professions when the

tax planning piece is off the table.

At the same time, technology and families are both evolving, laws are changing, and

practitioners face new challenges. This leads practitioners to wonder: What is the future

of the estate planning profession? What key factors are transforming our profession?

How can estate planners adapt to these forces?

Join a panel, moderated by Attorney Thomas A. Tietz, that includes members of the allied

professions: Accountant Lisa M. Mela, Attorney Andrew J. Chamberlain, Financial

Advisor Anita Srivastava and Insurance Planner Michael B. Dranoff for a discussion on

where they believe the profession is heading.

Panel Includes:

-Moderator: Thomas Tietz, Esq., Partner at Shenkman Tietz, LLP

-Lisa M. Mela, CPA, MST, Partner at Sax Advisors LLC

-Andrew J. Chamberlain, Esq., Principal of The Chamberlain Law Firm

-Anita Srivastava, CFP®, CRPS®, CPFA®, Financial Advisor and Portfolio Manager with

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management

-Michael B. Dranoff, Principal of New Jersey Life and Casualty Associates,
